UUtopia Report – Zyzzy

  • Hy disappeared. Luckie downsized. Joan left. Sahika moved in. Freda will be leaving her garden parcel. Peter expanded.

Outreach – Et

  • On Oct. 10, 10-1 CST, Et will talk about SL at the Cedar Lane UU church, the monthly “UU Alliance” meeting

Library Report – Bel

  • Then new library building is in place.  The library and water have switched places in order to bring the library closer to the other UUtopia areas and make it feel more included.  I also use my personal parcel to create continued water around the building.  The new building is more open and easier to hold event in now.  There is also a media room added to the library to show videos of interest and I will be changing them weekly starting in October.  These videos will be about the topics to be discussed on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm.
  • I would like to change the posters in the library to have people sign up for the Unitarian Universalists of SL.  I would like to use the LWR group for administrative purposes only.  People are getting multiple repeat notices from several UU groups.  I would like to condense this by eliminating basic notices about Library activity.  I can just use the regular group and calendar for that.
  • The teleporters seem to have an issue on parcels that do not have the script permissions set.  I moved the one to the Baha’i center onto the library side to avoid the conflict there but there still seems to be an issue at the Sanctuary.  The only difference I see is that everyone must be allowed to run scripts for the teleporters to work properly on the parcels.

Spirit Fair – Bel

  • The Spirit Park Grand Opening had some problems due to the SIM being sold in the middle of it.  I sent out the notices before the change occurred.  We are now in the new location and all set.  I’ve sent out new notices with the new LM for our permanent display at (LM)
  • The boards at Spirit Park are not up to date.  I sent a new board to be placed but with the crisis it has not been done yet.  I will revisit this with Sky when the crisis is over and the SIM is done moving to the new location.

New Business

Becoming a UUA related organization – Etaoin

  • Every so often we talk about becoming a Member Congregation of the UUA. I think that might be something to pursue someday, but according to Rule 3.3.3 http://www.uua.org/uuagovernance/bylaws/ruleiii/7090.shtml “A new congregation, to be recognized as a member of the Association, must have thirty (30) of its adult members be members solely of the new congregation.” I think too many of us are unable to break out of their old congregations right now.
  • In 2009, primarily as a cost-cutting move, the UUA dropped a lot of “Associate Members” and “Independent Affiliates”. These are organizations that have a relationship to the UUA, and have an opportunity to present a workshop at General Assembly. And even not have to sneak a banner into the Banner Parade.
  • Associate Members are right now the UUSC, United Nation Office, and the UU Women’s Federation (there may be others); the employees of these organizations are practically “dotted in” to the UUA structure and are nearly UUA employees. This is too ambition for FUUCSL.
  • “Independent Affiliates” are now known as “Related Organizations.” There are dozens of Related Organizations http://www.uua.org/directory/organizations/index.php and include things like DRUUM, the UU Minister’s Association, CUUPS, and a bunch of others. It turns out that recognition is not terribly difficult. See http://www.uua.org/uuagovernance/bylaws/ruleiii/7112.shtml
  • There is an annual $100 fee
  • Discussion ensued about transcending SL, say UUs of Virtual Worlds.
  • The organizations list is at http://www.uua.org/directory/organizations/index.php
  • We would consider a name change, perhaps UU-VW (Virtual Worlds)
  • Et will host a gmail discussion about this.
  • Sofia & Darcy moved that we begin discussions on this, led by Et. Seconded and approved.
  • Et will send out a proposal to start discussion.
  • We need to submit a proposal by April 14, 2014

The meeting was adjourned at  6:22  pm SLT
